Journley, LLC (“Journley“, “we“, “us“, or “our“) provides a platform designed to help second language learners engage in daily, well-rounded practice through text and audio journal entries. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services (the “Service“).
1. Who This Policy Applies To
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Service (“you“, “your“), whether registered or unregistered.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information that you provide directly:
- Name
- Email address
- Profile picture
- City, country, and time zone
- Text journal entries
- Audio recordings
- Images
- Study materials
All data is collected through user uploads during account registration and use of the Service.
3. Use of Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Journley platform
- Enable you to connect and interact with other users
- Facilitate translation services
- Store and display your journal entries
- Improve our service offerings
- Respond to user inquiries and support requests
4. Third-Party Services
We share data with the following third-party service providers to enable functionality:
- Firebase – for authentication via email/password, Google, or Facebook.
- Google Cloud Storage – to store images and audio uploads.
- Google Cloud Translation API and DeepL Translate API – to translate journal entries and other content.
- Heroku (U.S.) – hosting for our web app, backend API, and database.
These services process your data as necessary to deliver their respective functionalities. Your use of the Service is also subject to each third party’s own terms and privacy policies.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is securely stored in cloud infrastructure provided by Google Firebase (for authentication), Google Cloud (for media files), and Heroku (for the application and database). We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure.
6. Cookies and Tracking
Journley does not use cookies or tracking technologies.
7. Account Authentication
Authentication is handled by Google Firebase. Journley does not store or access your password. You may authenticate using email/password or social login options via Google or Facebook.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address provided in Section 11.
9. Children’s Privacy
Journley is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.
10. International Users
We do not target users in a specific country. However, by using the Service, you understand that your information may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries.
